Mechanical & Inspection

Established to cater for mechanical and inspection trainings and consultancy services to meet learners’ requirements and expectations.

The three sections: Rotating Equipment, Static Equipment, and Fabrication & Inspection, focus on the development and delivery of long-term and short-term training programmes.

Programme Management Section manages programmes under the categories of Civil, Structural & Pipeline Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Corrosion & Inspection (MCI) Engineering, Project Management and Steam Boiler & Internal Combustion Engineer Training & Assessment (PESITAS).

Mechanical & Inspection

Established to cater for mechanical and inspection trainings and consultancy services to meet learners’ requirements and expectations.

Atmospheric Storage Tank (AST) Inspection

This programme offers participants with crucial knowledge on design and inspection of Atmospheric Storage Tank (AST) to comply with oil and gas industry standards. It is also to equip and prepare candidates to sit for the OSR Inspector certification by exposing them with relevant case studies as well as code, standard and recommended practice.

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

  • Describe basic design of Atmospheric Storage Tank
  • Describe the Codes and Standards related to AST Inspection
  • Explain basic Scheme of Examination (SOE), NDT and Testing to ensure AST integrity
  • Apply the evaluation and risk assessment technique using the Bow-Tie model

Fired Pressure Vessel Inspection

This programme offers participants with the knowledge and skills on fired pressure vessel inspection to comply with oil and gas industry standards. This programme is designed to equip and prepare participants for OSR inspector certification by exposing them with relevant case studies as well as code, standard and recommended practices.  

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

  • Describe on Fired Pressure Vessel Basic Design and Ancillary Equipment
  • Describe the regulatory requirements and Codes & Standards related to Fired Pressure Vessel Inspection
  • Explain on Fired Pressure Vessel integrity management with statutory requirement and industry best practices
  • Explain on basic Scheme of Examination (SOE) on managing Fired Pressure Vessel integrity

Piping Inspection

This programme offers participants with important knowledge in Piping Inspection process according to the requirement of international standards and guidelines. This programme is designed to equip and prepare participants for OSR inspector certification by exposing them with relevant case studies as well as code, standard and recommended practices.  

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

  • Explain Piping Basic Design, Operation and Ancillary Equipment
  • Explain the regulatory requirements and Codes & Standards related to Piping Inspection
  • Relate piping integrity management with local statutory requirement
  • Apply basic Scheme of Examination (SOE) on managing piping integrity
  • Explain basic work process for inspection activities, inspect on findings evaluation and repair method

Welding Technology

This programme provides participants with essential knowledge in Welding Technology and its related activities commonly applied in oil and gas industry. The participants will be exposed to various welding processes, fabrication & repair procedures, inspection & testing as well as safety aspects according to statutory requirement, standards and guidelines.

This is also to equip and prepare participants for OSR inspector certification by exposing them with relevant case studies as well as code, standard and recommended practices.  

At the end of this programme, participant will be able to:

  • Explain the basic terminology and definitions in welding technology
  • Summarise the common arc welding processes complete with principle, equipment setup and consumables
  • Describe the welding inspection techniques to identify various welding discontinuities and its causes
  • Review standard welding documents such as WPS, PQR and Welder Certificates
  • Explain the requirements of heat treatment process in welding to improve the quality of weldment

Fabrication & Inspection Section

Fabrication & Inspection Section is equipped with several hands-on training facilities such as Machining Shop, Workshop Practice, Precision Measuring Tools, Fitting & Sheet Metal, Welding & Cutting, Non-Destructive Testing, Mechanical Testing, Hydraulic & Pneumatic, and AutoCAD Lab.

Static Equipment Section

Static Equipment Section is equipped with several hands-on training facilities such as Flange Management Facility, Valves & Safety Valves, Heat Exchangers, Slinging & Rigging, Scaffolding, Pipe & Fittings and Steam Traps.

Rotating Equipment Section

Rotating Equipment Section is equipped with several hands-on training facilities such as Vibration Lab (Analyser CSI 2140 and Rotor Balancing Kit) , Bearing Lab (various types of plain and rolling element bearings, cold & hot mounting tools), Alignment Lab (Alignment Jig, DTI & Laser Alignment), Pump Skids, Gas Compression Training Facility (GCTF), Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Pumps, Compressors, Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Mechanical Seals and Condition Based Monitoring (CBM tools, Thermographic Camera & Borescope).

Rotating Equipment Section also offers Vibration Analyst Training & Certification (ISO 18436 Category I – IV) in collaboration with Mobius Institute Australia.
