INSTEP Discover & Explore Carnival Bridges Communities: A PETRONAS’ 50th Celebration!

Posted date: 13 August 2024

Discover & Explore INSTEP Carnival was a carnival held to welcome the local community, university students, trainees, stakeholders, and family members to give them a deep look into INSTEP as the preferred technical learning solutions partner.

Notable stakeholders who spent their valuable time to visit INSTEP include ADUN Batu Rakit, YB Ustaz Mohd Shafizi Bin Ismail, Ir. Hj Noorazman bin Soud, Director of Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Sgt. Major Sheikh Mohamad Ali Aswad Bin Shikh Mahamod, Head Officer of Batu Rakit Police Station, Ts. Salmi bin Mat Salleh, Deputy Director of Industrial Training Institute, and representatives from Kuala Nerus District Office and District Education Office.

The carnival encouraged the visitors to explore INSTEP in detail; to get to know more about its history, offerings and many more through a series of visits from one venue to another which include PETRONAS 101, Chronicles of INSTEP, Wonders of UDTP, Edu Fair and last but not least Go Green!

PETRONAS 101, hosted at Dewan Sri Gelam, was packed with entertainment, featuring cultural performances, the Petrosains Combustion Show, Robobud and the “Meh Nok Kabo!” sharing session by Encik M Hazizul Mohamad, and Encik Zawawi Zaliah. The event also offered various attractions like a Games Corner and PETRONAS booths, including Petrosains, PETRONAS Shop, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, and more. Visitors could also view displays of INSTEP’s architectural model, LNG ship, drilling rigs, and other scaled-down models.

Visitors also got the chance see INSTEP’s Upstream Downstream Training Plant (UDTP) up close through a bus tour into the facility. The visit to UDTP was an eye-opening experience for learners and the public who were curious about the oil and gas sector. Chronicles of INSTEP gave visitors a deep dive into INSTEP’s rich history, from a humble beginning in 1981 as Sekolah Latihan Teknikal PETRONAS to the INSTEP that we all know and lovetoday. Visitors also took part in quizzes to win INSTEP merchandise.

Edu Fair & Go Green was one of the main venues that received an overwhelming attendance from the visitors. Edu Fair showcased booths from various organisations, including Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Universiti Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Institut Kemahiran Mara Besut, Tabung Haji, Terengganu Human Resource Development Centre, Central Emergency & Fire Response (CEFS), Klinik Perubatan Hijraa, Yayasan Pendidikan MAIDAM, and Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran. Meanwhile, the Go Green! venue engaged students and locals in seed bomb making, a hands-on activity aimed at raising awareness on sustainability, in line with PETRONAS’ sustainability efforts.

In conclusion, the Discover & Explore INSTEP Carnival has served as a platform for INSTEP to embrace the community; building a stronger connection that hopefully will last for years to come.
