3 November 2022 marked another INSTEP’s success story when 43 learners from Sarawak Petchem Sdn Bhd have successfully completed the Technician Training Programme (TTP). They are the second batch of TTP, tailored by INSTEP to train the young technical talents in areas of Operations, Maintenance, and Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to be a qualified technician in delivering the state’s first mega methanol aspiration.

YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr.) Hj Abdul Aziz Dato Haji Husain in his speech regarded his acknowledgment to the enormous dedication from INSTEP as the key player in supporting the Sarawak’s first mega-methanol project.

“INSTEP and PETRONAS are continuously exhibiting an unwavering endeavor on accelerating the human capital to reinforce the advancement of local workforce and technical talents, and concurrently lessening the dependency on external workforce, in an effort to establish Bintulu as a petrochemical hub,” he added.
The job-ready technicians will be stationed to multiple PETRONAS plants in Bintulu and Labuan to undergo On Job Training (OJT) as a part of the training development programme. This is crucial for the learners to get the exposure of the real-life working experience and to exercise safe working practices in the real plants.

Quoting Chief Executive Officer of INSTEP, En. Idris Ibrahim’s words,” In a world that is increasingly volatile and uncertain, competency is currency. Equipping yourself with technical skills and knowledge can increase the employability and selling factor of oneself.”
He also touched upon the importance of setting the tone of professionalism to the learners. “The most important reminder to our learners before entering the professional field, is to stand firm and steadfast on your integrity belief. Knowledge and skills without discipline and self-integrity are insubstantial.”
Azri Ibrahim delivered his appreciation speech on behalf of his fellow colleagues.
Azri Ibrahim, the leader of Batch 2 Learners, conveyed his profound gratitude to be able to be a part of Sarawak Petchem legacy and joining the 1-year training programme at INSTEP.
“Despite coming from different family and educational background in Sarawak, we are able to adapt and study together here in INSTEP. We gained extensive new knowledge and skills including critical thinking and problem solving from our experienced instructors. This will be a momentous mark in our lives, personally and professionally,” he said.

The dignitaries were also entertained with a stage performance from the learners.
This joyous ceremony is not the end for the learners, it only signifies the beginning of a new journey to them. With all the knowledge gained from INSTEP, this will be a kickstart to carve a new career pathway for the learners, endorsing INSTEP’s fruitful education system.
INSTEP has so far produced more than 130,000 technical graduates in various fields for the global energy sector over a period of four decades, an illustration of the passion in being the key player for PETRONAS human capital growth.
